Jesus Pastor has been living in Sopwell since 2005 with his wife and two children, both of whom have attended local schools. He has been working in logistics for over 15 years, and also volunteers at a local refugee support group.

A proud Sopwell resident, Jesus is committed to supporting the vibrant sense of community here, and help other residents whenever possible. He is determined to preserve our environment, and keep our streets safe for drivers and pedestrians.

Harriet Sherlock as lived in St Albans District with her husband and 3 children for more than 20 years. She has gained a wide range of experience through volunteering roles on PTAs, setting up a new Beaver Scout colony, helping at the St Julian’s Community Cafe and running the old folks’ Lunch Club at St Stephen’s. Harriet’s career was spent in Customer Service and Marketing. Harriet would like to use this combination of skills to support the people of Sopwell to get the service they need and deserve from their District Council. She is passionate about the environment and justice and is inspired by the wonderful sense of community in the ward.

District Councillor Sarwar Shamsher is a full-time maths teacher,who lives in Sopwell with his wife and five daughters. Since his election, he has been solving problems such as overgrown verges, fly-tipping, and parking issues. He secured funding to provide better sports facilities for people from minority ethnic backgrounds. He has a long record of volunteering, including serving as a governor of Mandeville Primary.

District councillor Emma Matanle has lived in St Albans for the last 25 years and raised her family here. Over the years, Emma has volunteered with the local Scout group, allotment association and school PTA organisations. With strong interests in climate change and education,she is the chair and co-founder of the Fair Funding for All Schools Campaign in St Albans. Emma works with the Local Government Information Unit.

Everyone in Sopwell knows someone who has been helped by Sandy Walkington.  As county councillor, he has fought for our area on many different issues and he always keeps in touch. A notable victory was his work with residents to keep the Cottonmill rail crossing open. “It is such a privilege to represent this wonderful community at County Hall”, Sandy says.
